Writings in Stone..........

Trying out something new for me..........Taking prints on paper , using black ink , from locally found stones called " laja" which I worked on with my simple tools making patterns , lines and more..........Writings in stone , scratching in history and "recording" it on paper using my own hands rubbing in the applied ink into the moist paper..........Touching this old material ,sensing it and passing the newly made "writings" on to the paper which is soft ,weak and totally opposite in quality compared to stone.......The heavy stone does not move at all while I am pressing the paper gently because when I use to much force the paper will come apart..........easy does it , caressing the paper with my big hands thinking of the underlaying ink on the surface of the stone getting an opposite image of what I "wrote".A strange process of hard and soft , effort and patience , pressure and muscles all the while thinking in my mind.............The final result is not that important any outcome is a result of these processes so therefore no worries at all about quality of the print or applying sufficient ink and pressure of my hands or wondering if the paper was moist enough.............etc etc........not important ......each print is a unique one an example of the work done at that time on that day by my hands...........

Laja Stones.

Now these results are being exhibited in Morelia city where I show the stones with the writings and scratches placed just on the floor, the best location for stone to be shown and exhibiting the printed papers on the walls.Actually I made a kind of puzzle of the stones fitting perfectly together but I decided to show each stone seperately to make it a bit more challenging for the spectators..............Why make it it easy on them........use your minds a bit ......find out what the heck is going on and discover by yourself.........heheee........But I made some prints when the stones were placed together which are also exhibited............

Print detail.

I liked the results very much so now I have to continue doing this in various manners and ways using different stones and paper qualities............
